Strateginen henkilöstöjohtaminen pienessä kunnassa
2016
Tämän tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli selvittää strategisen henkilöstöjohtamisen juurtumista pienen kunnan henkilöstöjohtamiseen sekä määrittää tapausorganisaation henkilöstöjohtamisen strategisuuden kehitystaso. Tutkimus on luonteeltaan laadullinen tapaustutkimus ja empiirinen aineisto kerättiin teemahaastatteluiden avulla haastattelemalla kahdeksaa Suonenjoen kaupungin lähiesimiestä. Haastatteluaineisto analysoitiin teemoittelua ja sisällönanalyysia yhdistämällä. Teemoittelun pohjana olevat pääteemat nostettiin teoreettisesta viitekehyksestä. Tämän l…

To be or not to be: Collaborative Governance and The Case of Continuous Master Planning in Lahti
2020
The benefits of collaborative actions between different stakeholders has been recognized broadly and has been admitted as one of the key factors in regional development. However, the research has so far focused on examining cases retrospectively, leaving a gap in looking into something on-going and uncertain, as well as it has been common to consider regional development through abstracts concepts. Therefore, there exists less information on the practical implementation of the theories and policies within regions. Additionally, it is important to take into consideration the ever-growing trend of cross-sectoral collaboration - however not only in public-private interface, but also involving …
“They’re a little bit squeezed in the middle”: Strategic challenges for innovation in US Metropolitan newspaper organisations
2019
This paper focuses on media innovation among publishers of metropolitan newspapers in the United States, in cities such as San Diego, Boston, Miami, Philadelphia and Dallas. The situation for metropolitan newspapers is difficult, as they fall between national newspapers, which can aim for extending their reach both nationally and globally, and local newspapers, which have a smaller cost structure and can cater to a more limited, and often more engaged, audience community. Our paper demonstrates that there seems to be great awareness of what can be done by US metropolitan newspapers, but managers are struggling with constraints, such as lack of financial and human resources and general organ…

Museum Studies – Bridging Theory and Practice
2021
This book is a handbook for everyone who is interested in museums and the wider cultural and cultural heritage debates. In the spirit of lifelong learning, it aims to connect the humanistic discipline of museum studies with the wider context of society. Museums possess power as safekeepers of our memories. This book will, in its own small way, take part in the discussion of making our past and future memories matter, to show how important it is for us to understand our past. In our contemporary culture it often seems that no time is allowed for this kind of understanding; the constant flow of issues and “must dos” often hinders us from seeing the connections between our past and present. In…

Recruitments in Finnish universities: practicing strategic or pathetic HRM?
2016
Recruitment is a core instrument in the academic labour market. This article takes the perspective of the organisation − here, the university − on recruitment. Universities’ personnel policies and practises are shifting from legally oriented personnel administration to more strategic human resource management (HRM). In Nordic countries, this shift is partly driven by the changing status of higher education institutions from state-governed bureaus to more autonomous institutions. This article provides insight into this transition, using Finland as a case example of higher education systems that have undergone drastic reform, moving from a civil servant model to autonomous personnel policy.
